What is the difference in taste between cow yogurt, sheep yogurt, and goat yogurt?

Sheep yogurt is naturally richer and more flavorful than cow yogurt. Unlike goat yogurt, sheep yogurt doesn’t have a strong smell and doesn’t have a gamey taste. Instead, sheep yogurt offers a pleasant, clean, and mildly sweet flavor. Many people who try sheep yogurt after consuming cow yogurt find they prefer the taste of sheep yogurt.

Why is your sheep yogurt easy to digest and lactose-friendly?

With 70% of people experiencing intolerance to traditional cow milk products, sheep yogurt stands out as one of the gentlest yogurts to digest. This is attributed to its distinct protein profile including A2 beta-casein and its distinctive fat composition having smaller fat globules. Additionally, sheep yogurt contains short-chain and medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are absorbed more quickly and easily than the long-chain fats in cow yogurt. These MCTs are absorbed directly into the bloodstream, providing quick energy and reducing the strain on the digestive system. Ovino sheep yogurt also undergoes a long set-style fermentation where healthy active bacteria convert most of the lactose found in milk into lactic acid. All these factors make sheep yogurt the perfect alternative for those sensitive to cow milk but who still want to enjoy the benefits of dairy.

What is A2?

Most cow milk contains two main types of beta-casein protein: A1 and A2. Research indicates that many people experience digestive discomfort due to the A1 protein. Ovino sheep yogurt contains only A2 protein, which is one of the many reasons it stands out as one of the gentlest and easiest yogurts to digest.

Why is your sheep yogurt healthier and more nutritious than cow or goat yogurt?

Sheep yogurt offers almost double the nutritional value of cow yogurt, boasting higher levels of energy, protein, minerals, vitamins, lactoferrin, and DHA.

Energy
Sheep yogurt is rich in medium-chain fatty acids (MCTs), comprising about 25% of its fat content, which can aid weight management by enhancing feelings of fullness, reducing fat storage, boosting energy use, and being more efficiently converted into energy.

Complete Protein Source
Sheep yogurt is considered a complete protein source, meaning it contains all 10 essential amino acids, which are vital because the body cannot produce them on its own and must obtain them through one’s diet. Not all protein is equal and sheep yogurt has a unique protein profile with the highest levels of essential branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, and valine), which fuel skeletal muscles during exercise, aid in muscle recovery, and support muscle protein synthesis.

Minerals, Vitamins, Lactoferrin, and DHA
Sheep yogurt is richer in B12, folate, calcium, and magnesium. Sheep yogurt contains more lactoferrin than cow yogurt, which helps defend the body against harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Sheep yogurt has naturally occurring DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), which is essential for maintaining healthy brain function in adults.

Are Ovino products pasteurized?

Yes, all Ovino products are pasteurized.

Why is there liquid sometimes on the top of my yogurt or after I start consuming the yogurt?

The liquid sometimes found on top of yogurt is whey, a natural byproduct of the yogurt-making process. It’s normal for whey to separate after packaging or after you start consuming the yogurt. The whey is rich in essential vitamins and nutrients and can be easily stirred back into the yogurt to maintain its nutritional value. Some people prefer to strain the whey out to produce an even thicker texture.

Why is there sugar in your yogurt?

We don’t add any sugar to our plain yogurts so the only sugar present is the natural sugar found in sheep milk. In our vanilla yogurt, all added sugar comes from organic cane sugar.

What is ghee?

Simply put, ghee is simmered butter. The simmering process removes the water and milk solids in the butter leading to a final product that is pure, keto, and lactose-free. Ovino ghee is a highly nutritious and deliciously creamy butter alternative.

What is sheep ghee used for?

Ovino ghee is perfect for a wide variety of high-heat cooking, baking and sauteing options. Ghee can also be enjoyed as a spread or added to coffee or other beverages. Ghee is a versatile way to add flavor to many recipes and has endless possibilities!

What are your sheep fed?

Our sheep enjoy a mostly grass-based diet, as it supports their health and yields the best yogurt. Grass is the ideal feed for sheep and provides the most nutritious yogurt. At certain times of the year, we supplement with grains when needed. Since grains aren't a natural part of a sheep's diet, they aren’t suitable as a primary food source for them.

Can we visit your farm to purchase products?

We are a working farm and milk processing facility and do not have a store on-site. While we cannot offer farm tours at this time, we may host tours during special occasions in the future.

What does Ovino mean?

Ovino means sheep in Latin!
